There are certain meetings that stay in your memory forever. The representatives of the JohnnyBros Foundation, led by the chairman, Julian Pawlukiewicz, have had a chance to meet Lech Wałęsa. The visit in his office was possible thanks to winning an auction during the 14th edition of Ball with a Heart, an event organized by Hospice Foundation, which we have contributed to as well as a diamond sponsor.
Monday, 24th March 2025. A few minutes after 9 a.m., a six-person delegation of the JohnnyBros Foundation is crossing the threshold of the European Solidarity Centre. The excitement is mixed with slight nervousness - after all, you don’t get a chance to meet a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and one of the most famous Polish people in history every day.
Julian Pawlukiewicz is holding a big, beautifully wrapped painting depicting a morning by the Narew river. It is an oil landscape painting done by his father, Janusz.
- A special visit requires a special gift. To me, Lech Wałęsa is a great and prominent figure. I am proud of the fact that we come from the same city - the chairman of the JohnnyBros Foundation, Julian Pawlukiewicz, emphasizes.
The meeting starts on time. The host welcomes us smiling and surprised by the size of the gift he receives. We sit at the table and get into conversation.
- I have heard that you wanted to meet me and that you had even paid for that. Unbelievable! - Mr President jokes and begins a mini-lecture, which we are listening to with rapt attention.
We have broken the ice - the initial shyness is gone. As the discussion moves towards topics related to Gdańsk, we find many common grounds and they all lead to Siedlce, where our office is located. Half an hour passes in the blink of an eye.
We end the meeting with pictures and wishing one another more meetings like this one. Our host is about to depart for Poznań. Despite being 82 years old, he is still more energetic than many teenagers.
Dear Mr President, thank you very much for the meeting. It was an honour!
